Improving patient care with advanced GI diagnostics & therapies.

Like any medical specialty, gastroenterology continues to advance and change, which improves your patients’ GI care. At Gastroenterology Consultants, we take pride in staying at the forefront of GI medicine. This includes offering the most up-to-date and effective techniques.

ERCP enables diagnosis & treatment of pancreaticobiliary problems.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography allows us to diagnose and treat disorders of the bile and pancreatic ducts, including gallstones, inflammatory strictures and cancer. If the contrast-assisted X-rays show abnormalities, we’re able to remove stones or stent obstructions. ERCP also permits tissue sampling to help determine if a stricture is benign or malignant.

Argon plasma coagulation (APC) treats GI bleeding.

To control bleeding from GI lesions or to debulk certain GI tumors, we can direct a jet of plasma though an endoscopic probe, then electrically heat the gas to coagulate the lesion. APC does not involve direct contact with the lesion and results in shallow coagulation of just a few millimeters, making it safe and useful for treating bleeding where the GI tract has thin walls.

Diagnosing GERD definitively with Bravo pH monitoring.

True GERD can often be difficult to diagnose. The esophageal appearance at EGD in many cases is normal for patients who suffer from heartburn, atypical chest pain or reflux-induced coughing. Today, esophageal pH monitoring is the “gold standard” for diagnosing subtle GERD. Bravo pH monitoring involves endoscopically clipping a tiny radiotelemetric probe to the lower esophagus. The probe then measures esophageal pH every 20 seconds for a period of 48 hours. Computerized interpretation of this data provides high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing acid reflux disease.

In-office Remicade® infusion improves outcomes for IBD.

Remicade is a monoclonal antibody directed against tumor necrosis factor, a primary cause of inflammation in patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Infusion of Remicade typically takes two hours and is administered in the comfort and convenience of our infusion center, where patients sit restfully and can watch television, converse, read, knit, etc. Remicade is FDA-approved for acute and long-term treatment of IBD, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.

At Gastroenterology Consultants, we welcome your inquiries about our leading-edge techniques as well as any other GI topics. And we of course welcome your referrals.

Provide relief & resolution for your patients’ hemorrhoids.

You’re a physician. For that reason alone, hemorrhoids are and always will be part of your practice. That’s because about 50%* of Americans will have hemorrhoids at some point in their lifetime. And by the time these people seek your help, they really need it. But that doesn’t mean they need a hemorrhoidectomy. In fact, hemorrhoidectomy is inappropriate for most Class II and Class III hemorrhoids, especially given the inherent risks, pain and downtime. Yet, they will need treatment. And they need to be aware that, without treatment, their hemorrhoids — and the misery — will return . . . and worsen over time.

* American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons

The standard of care for hemorrhoid treatment.

Today, the most common hemorrhoid treatment is rubber-band ligation. In fact, it’s the most common “surgical” procedure, with roughly 50 million performed worldwide each year. It treats more than 95% of all hemorrhoids and is as effective as hemorrhoidectomy... and both safer for and easier on patients.

Protecting your patients’ comfort, safety & health.

At Gastroenterology Consultants, we use a patented ligation system that cuts off the hemorrhoid’s blood supply more quickly, comfortably and accurately than some other methods. As a result, we’re helping to minimize post-procedure pain and bleeding. And studies show excellent long-term results.

The ligator we use allows our board-certified GI specialists to manually control the suction needed to grab the hemorrhoid tissue. With conventional rubber banding, discomfort and post-procedure pain, bleeding and complications often result from sharp, metal-toothed graspers puncturing muscle lining and grabbing too much tissue. Graduations on the device also permit more accurate placement away from pain receptors near the dentate line. And the device itself is smaller and more comfortable than other devices, so patients’ hemorrhoids are banded with unprecedented safety and ease.
