CRH O’Reagan System for Hemorrhoids by Dr. Jignesh Shah MD

by Dr. Jignesh Shah MD

According to the NIDDK, hemorrhoids affect more than half the population by the age of 50. Taking into consideration there are over 300 million people living in the U.S. today, knowing even half that number of people are affected is staggering.  Raising awareness of what Hemorrhoids are and how they can be prevented are some of the goals as a gastroenterologist.

A hemorrhoid is a swollen blood vessel in the lower rectum caused by increased pressure or strain. Possible causes are due to prolong sitting,  straining, pregnancy, chronic constipation, diarrhea, anal intercourse or aging.  The origin of all hemorrhoids are internal, however when more severe, they can extend through the anus (Prolapsed Hemorrhoids) becoming painful and irritated and can result in a thrombosed external hemorrhoid.  These are not life threatening but if left untreated can cause discomfort and pain. Most people have no symptoms, although some signs to look for are bright red blood covering the stool, on toilet paper, or in the toilet bowl. It’s important you get evaluated by a gastroenterologist if you experience signs of hemorrhoids as bleeding can also be a sign of colorectal cancer.

At Gastroenterology Consultants, PA we provide an easy and simple non-surgical Hemorrhoid Removal system called CRH O’Reagan System. This procedure can be done during a regular office visit and takes as little as 60 seconds. The hemorrhoid typically falls off within a day or so and this technique has been found to be 99.1% effective. There is no surgery and no recovery time. You don’t have miss work, no medications are needed, and no painful banding tools are used.

In the event that you experience discomfort from a hemorrhoid and are unable to see a physician in a timely manner, below are easy steps that can be taken for temporary relief.

Measures to reduced symptoms are as follows:

  • Warm baths several times a day in plain water (sitz baths)
  • Application of hemorrhoid cream
  • Ice packs to reduce swelling

Preventing the re-occurrence or occurrence of hemorrhoids can easily be taken by making sure to include the right amount of fiber, water, and exercise in your daily routine.  Good sources of fiber are vegetables (dark green), fruits, and whole grains. Speak with your doctor about fiber supplements that aid in creating a softer and bulkier stool.
